Gallows... an eerie and chilling sight on their own, they take on an even greater sense of dread when the person looking at them knows that the dangling noose is meant for them. And in the upcoming horror flick from writer-director pair Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing, there are some unlucky souls who are about to become very familiar with the world's worst necktie.
Taking its cue from from the found footage horror films, the volume of which has moderately calmed down of late, as well as the "high school secret returning to haunt people" trope, The Gallows sees a group of high school students attempt to restage a play that went disastrously wrong to mark the twenty year anniversary of the accident. However, they very quickly find their own theatrical efforts stunted by the arrival of a murderous hangman.
The teaser trailer here is a suitably grim beast, soaked in deep red light and black shadow. The disquieting murmurs and whispers do a lot to create a distinctly unnerving atmosphere, too. There is a moment that is borderline Blair Witch, but pulls itself back from that before things get too close. This certainly does look to have something going for it, though the found footage aspect may turn some people away.
The Gallows will be released in the US in July, with UK audiences having to wait until September (which is, let's be honest, is a much better time for it).
