Boy meets a girl, they become best friends despite their obvious attraction, they leave somewhere else and it all goes to shit. Then they inevitably hook up. Love, Rosie is different just because this time it’s centred on Rosie and Alex who both go separate ways but it is clear they actually in love. That’s about it. It is also based on a bestselling book movie. It’s just screaming a lesser version of One Day without the bad accents. There’s abs and boobs and funny poignant moments as well as the obligatory emotional vein which swells just as the music does.
The funniest thing about these clips, however, is exactly how they are appealing to our different nations. On the right, you’ll note the Lily Collin’s narration as her character tells the entire story with the English rock band 1975 jauntily singing in the background. It’s very British. On the left, you have this non-descript song with the typical American voice over that is so close to saying “he is just a boy, she is just a girl, together they must battle life to fall in love.” In fact, scratch that, it is pretty much what he is saying here.
I don’t mean to sound so stupidly superficial but I’ll be watching for Sam Claflin’s jaw. And his stellar acting.
Love, Rosie is out October 22nd
