The trailers for Christopher Nolan’s previous films (specifically Inception and the Dark Knight trilogy) have shown a filmmaker who understands with the ways of marketing. By the very nature of the projects, his past films have been able to inspire a great deal of enthusiasm whilst also keeping potential viewers in the dark about what exactly is going on. Interstellar appeared to be going the same way, but the latest TV spots on release seem to be on the verge of bucking the trend.
Previously, trailers for the film have held back a lot of information, letting out glimpses of images that would be difficult to reconcile without more to go on. Now, the bag is being opened a bit more, and cats are making their play to escape. With these new TV spots, plot details are becoming more apparent, dots are allowed to be connected, information is becoming less guarded. Earlier more spiritually-minded ads evoking concepts and notions have now been put aside for far more straightforward “here’s what you’re gonna get” material… and I’m not sure I’m on board with that (but I would say that, I’m a pretty big spoiler-phobe).
Honestly, if you are the type of person who prefers to remain intentionally less informed about a movie before seeing it, it’s safer to avoid these spots altogether, cause they definitely do start to fill in the blanks that were probably better off as blanks. If you’re none to fussed, check out the videos below and see more of the cast, more of the mission, and more of the backbone of Christopher Nolan’s latest film.
Interstellar is released 6th November.
