The trailer shows very little of the story and shows more of how gorgeous they are making the film. We want beautiful, want to be sucked in to their world and immersed in the scenery; but for those who are unaware of the series will want a little bit more of plot. From the trailers so far, it’s clear that the film has veered away from the source material to some extent, enraging many book fans. The first film did the same but made it better so let’s hold hope for the best.
In slow motion, Tris is shown to be yanking away from cables that are embedded in her body, with such a ferocious look on her face that she could be mistaken for a lioness protecting her cubs. Let’s just bask in the glory that is Shailene Woodley’s acting for a moment, shall we? Back to trailer and the irritating thing is that It’s totally irrelevant to the story so we’re still largely unaware of what will happen. Giving snippets of the arc but mostly focuses on the action scenes, perhaps the lack of story will help broaden the demographics of those who watch the film, roping in some action movie fans. This trailer is entirely intent on showing off what they can do with the environment which is indeed impressive.
This trailer is certainly effective and engaging, with the camera following the action in a smooth technique. However, whoever came up with the completely unoriginal and over used line of 'She is the one' needs to do more research and think more about how to make this series seem unique compared to all of the other Young Adult Dystopian film series, like The Hunger Games.
Do you prefer trailers that give away more to the story, or do you prefer to go in totally blind, only having seen the special effects beforehand?
