Vlogging. A confusing little word with a big meaning. What does it mean? Well, ‘Vlogging’ is the term used to describe when someone takes a ‘video blog’ of their day-to day life, talking about a whole number of different topics right off the top of their own head and sharing it with the world on social media websites.
Now, if you are a YouTube fanatic, then you probably already knew those facts. Many YouTube sensations such as Shane Dawson, CTFxC, Shaytards and Tobuscus vlog on a daily basis, and for one special little lady Rebecca Margey (@BionicBex on Twitter) has decided to take on the task of daily vlogging for two whole months in aid of Yorkhill Children’s Charity!

New to the I’m With Geek team is Charlotte Fraser (@TheStoryPhoenix), a good friend of Rebecca’s who managed to snag us a little interview! So without further ado, here is what they had to say!
Q. What is the definition of ‘Vlogging’ to you?
A. – I think that vlogging is really having the need to connect in a simple way to people who you might not necessarily know. The feeling of connecting with someone so many miles away from you in the hope that they come across your video in the first place is amazing. It’s a nice thing to have.
Q. What made you make the decision to Vlog every day for 2 Months?
A. – Truth be told I’ve always wanted to be a part of the vlogging community. I think there is something truly amazing about recording your life. It’s like you are leaving your mark on the world in some small way. It’s a challenge, but it’s worth it. I decided that for the next two months there was to be no more excuses. I couldn’t put it off any longer.
Q. Are you enjoying the experience so far, and what does your YouTube username mean?
A. – I love it so far! I feel like I’m never alone now that I’m vlogging every day. There is always going to be some doubt though. I guess I’m worried that my vlogs are boring and people aren’t enjoying them and even laughing at my expense, but from the amazing response I’ve gotten so far I can say that thankfully, none of those things have happened. The support I’ve gotten has been awesome! My username is really just a funny play on words to be fair. I have a pacemaker, so BionicBex sort of just fit!
Q. What is your favourite part of Vlogging/Being in front of the Camera?
A. – I think making people laugh has been my favourite part. It’s good to know people can get a few giggles because of the things I do. The thing with the Internet is, everything makes sense online. At least one person will find me funny or identify with me in one way or another.
Q. Why do you personally want to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Charity?
A. – I’ve been a patient at Yorkhill since i was born. I was born with a heart condition and they’ve saved my life not just once but many times before. It’s a way to say thank you to all of the Doctors and people that work there, and it’s also a way to help the other children like me. It’s my last year as a patient there, and i wanted to do something worthwhile to express my gratitude.

Q. Do you think vlogging is the way forward for Internet users?
A. – Yes! Most definitely! I think it’s changed the Internet. YouTube especially has shaped the world. It’s a really powerful website. I think there are a lot of people on YouTube and other webites like it and vlogging is definitely the way forward.
Q. What type of people do you think watch your videos? Do you have a specific type of person you aim them at?
A. – I know that Friends and Family watch my vlogs, and i would like to think that people that are interested in Yorkhill would watch them as well. Maybe the parents of the children in Yorkhill hospital watch, but I’m really not sure. My vlogs have been quite general. I’d hope that people my own age would watch them, too. So from 17-25 year olds. I don’t really aim the videos at a specific person or group, but I do try and not to swear or anything on camera.
Q. Who are your inspirations for making videos and why?
A. – My main inspirations are Charles and Alli of CTFxC because they do daily vlogs and have done for five years. They have never missed a day and have even achieved a world record! To me, that’s a really big accomplishment and they have vlogged even through the bad times as well as the good. They trust the world with what’s going on with their lives and are so determined.
Q. Do you think you’ll start a trend online for different ways of raising money for Charity?
A. It’s a nice idea, but no. Vlogging is already a trend as it is. Nearly all of the massive YouTube stars already vlog, and have done for quite some time now. The charity side of things really is just a bonus. A good bonus at that, though!
Q. What do you think you’ll be doing in 2014 when your 2 Months of vlogging is over with?
A. – I’ll probably be sitting watching them all back and reliving the moments in them! I have a funny feeling that I’ll still be talking to a camera like a crazy person, but who knows! I’m hoping that it’s easy for me to let go of vlogging once the two months are up, but really, I’m doubtful that’ll happen!
