Alternative universes, Alien technologies, such realms are so vast and captivating it’s no wonder so many films and series jump on the genre. Portal offers us something that isn’t too far from what society wants now. Addiction, a term used flippantly but is a real term that causes real damage. Portal is an addiction, so much so they have banned it. This game offers the chance to enter a surreal universe so perfect, so great compared to your current lifestyle that the authorities have put a stop to anyone using it.

As we all know, placing things in the "do not touch" category only makes them more appealing. Just like in our world, this doesn’t stop people from outsourcing manufactures of the game and plugging into their alternate lives. This game is breaking up families, businesses and has become more addictive than any drug seen before. A drug that Senator McAuley refuses to accept whilst he is governing. It is rather enticing though isn’t it? An alternative universe where you can be anyone you want to be, do what you want to do – escape the constraints of reality as we know it. A subject that indeed has already been explored, although this is on a much more down to earth and smaller scale than the likes of Avatar and The Matrix.
Created by independent studio Future Artists’, Director Mark Ashmore gives us a five part web series exploring the concept of a virtual world that is so readily available that anyone can become hooked on it. A very enticing subject indeed.
