R2D2 and C3PO in Indiana Jones, visual effects you’ll never believe and the real Papa Smurf!

Who doesn’t love Star Wars? Well, people who haven’t seen it I guess… But most people are familiar with R2D2 and C3PO, the loveable droids appearing along side the cast of Star Wars, but not many people know, C3PO and R2D2 made a small appearance in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark! George Lucas did produce the Indiana Jones films, so maybe it comes as no surprise that they make just a tiny little cameo. Hands up people who’ve ever noticed this before?

"I can't believe my eyes!"

We’re all familiar with visual effects in movies or TV shows, we see them all the time in shows like Doctor Who or, well, pretty much any TV show or movie. They’re used so much, granted we may be able to tell that the flying police box is in fact “CGI Fiction”, but others are not so easy to spot. Take a look at this video, where something as simple as just walking down a street can turn out to be a brilliant CGI shot that you’d never notice!

The Real Papa Smurf!

Okay so it might be a bit cruel to call Paul Karason “Papa Smurf”, but it’s a name he gets quite often due to his bazaar skin colour, which is of course, blue.

No this isn’t makeup left over from George A Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, this is the result of Paul’s self-medication when he used a compound containing Silver, which although very pretty, can be very poisonous, to treat a case of Dermatitis. He used Silver dissolved in water, which had been renowned for years for its antibacterial properties, but since been replaced with the far safer Penicillin, because Silver collects in the skin and cannot escape. As a result, Paul, like many people in the past, will likely be blue for the rest of his life!  He seems in good spirits, however, remarking just a while ago that he believes he is turning lighter, and hopes to be a shade of green very soon.

Got anything to add to today's facts?
