Conventions such as the ones run by MCM and the ones run by Showmasters can be very fun events to attend particularly in cosplay. I know I enjoy it massively and I’m most definitely not alone in that. In honesty, we enjoy the attention and we enjoy wearing costumes we’ve devoted time and money to put together. That doesn’t excuse any kind of besmirchment of a cosplayer like the now notorious Daily Star article aboutMarch’s Birmingham MCM. Whilst the media really should be more respectful of cosplay and cosplayers themselves rather than reduce them to mere sex objects for their readers to pleasure themselves with, cosplayers and journalists can take steps to ensure that this problem is tackled. Today I’m going to go through what cosplayers and journalists, no matter what publication they write for, can do to avoid more Daily Star-style problems.

There’s no business like show business and definitely none quite like stage show as the 2015 Olivier Awards took place. As the stars of the theatre donned the Royal Opera House last night to showcase the brilliance that has hit the London West End over the past year. From legends such as Angela Lansbury to the upcoming new talents such as George Maguire, the entire awards were enthused with the glitz and glam of London as it sparkled down with talent.

Celebrating a whole host of talent ranging from dance to acting, music and directing; The Oliviers certainly were to talk of the town.

James McAvoy Donates £125,000 to Fund New Talent

It’s always nice to hear from an actor who supports working class actors and under-privileged thespians who wouldn’t normally have access to the tools that comes with fortune. It’s always nice to hear them championing new talent, rising them up to the level of others despite coming from a background that doesn’t necessitate their dreams and goals. You see. That’s always nice to hear; an actor who is self-aware of the industry and accurately speaks out against it and the government retracting funding from their careers. It is truly nice to hear.

But it is absolutely great when an actor steps up to the plate and donates, putting the money where their mouth is. And that is exactly what James McAvoy has done proving that, yet again, he is a perfect human being.

Are Old Wives Tales Just a Result of Grand Foolishness?

If aliens, yes those glowing little green men, were to descend from the outer reaches of space, they might just find Earth’s humanity to be quite a paranoid bunch of coconuts. Are old wives tales the result of foolish paranoia gone amok, or is there more to them than meets the eye?

This April Fool’s Day, I’ll be reviewing some old wives tales and I’ll also be considering how high the foolish level actually goes. For this particular sort of analysis, I’ll be using the Fool’s-Ometer Scale of Skiving Snack Boxes. This is a highly sophisticated device that measures on a scale of one to five Skiving Snack boxes, which were created by the Weasley twins. These awesome parcels contained Fainting Fancies, Fever Fudge, Nosebleed Nougat, and Puking Pastilles. Very handy for any Hogwarts student looking to ditch class.

I’m not going to talk about the usual suspects like crossing the path of a black cat, breaking mirrors, walking beneath ladders, and stepping on cracks in the sidewalk. No, I’m going to look at some of the lesser daily remembered.

We Get "Geeky" With SuperGeek - Cosplay With Me

With the increased popularity of cosplaying, cosplay music videos has become popular alongside it starting with the prevelence of Sneaky Zebra. There are many videos at events with cosplayers dancing, hanging out, posing and many other things from many different people on YouTube to all sorts of music. As someone who has never been involved in a music video like that, I’d always wondered how they come about and how the video makers managed to get so many willing volunteers. I found out more when I volunteered to participate in We Are Supergeek’s music video to the song ‘Geeky’, a parody of Pharrell Williams’s song ‘Happy’.

This weekend saw me arrive at my first visit to Comic-con. As a ‘bit of a geek’ I have been aware of this convention in the US heralded by Bill Burr as: “The nerd-mecha” for some time. That well sounds like ‘my thing’ and since the comic-con events started popping up in the UK I have always been keen to take a goosey.

The translation from US to UK is renowned for being a little hazy at best and I think this was no exception. There was definitely a great vibe around the exhibition centre with much of what you might expect from such an event. I’m no pro to any of this but I’ll break it down as best I can.

Bates Motel - The Experience

Quick: If someone paid you to stay a night in the Bates Motel, how much would it be? £1000? £100,000? A million pounds?! How about free? Because despite the murderous inclinations of the proprietors, three team members of I’m With Geek literally leaped with excitement at the chance of staying in the infamous titular motel.

Of course, this was all thanks to Universal Channel and the upcoming third instalment of the terrifying television show based on Alfred Hitchcock’ timeless thriller Psycho. Head of Film Cookie, Publicist and Staff Writer Jo and Merchandise Designer Frankie all headed to Shephard’s Bush as The Grantly Hotel hosted the spooky spectacles this passed Friday Night.
