
Conventions such as the ones run by MCM and the ones run by Showmasters can be very fun events to attend particularly in cosplay. I know I enjoy it massively and I’m most definitely not alone in that. In honesty, we enjoy the attention and we enjoy wearing costumes we’ve devoted time and money to put together. That doesn’t excuse any kind of besmirchment of a cosplayer like the now notorious Daily Star article aboutMarch’s Birmingham MCM. Whilst the media really should be more respectful of cosplay and cosplayers themselves rather than reduce them to mere sex objects for their readers to pleasure themselves with, cosplayers and journalists can take steps to ensure that this problem is tackled. Today I’m going to go through what cosplayers and journalists, no matter what publication they write for, can do to avoid more Daily Star-style problems.
