You’re not a geek if you don’t love something Whedon has written/directed. There I said it. This man is responsible for a lot of the Geeky landmarks of the last twenty years.
Here I will horribly generalise his work and who it appeals to. I’m not sorry. Whedon Rules!
For all you Twilight fangirls, I can safely say that I was obsessed with teenage vampires years before Stephanie Meyers came up with the Idea on the 2nd of June 2003 (My 11th birthday, coincidence - I THINK NOT).
Whatever, I loved the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer film and the TV series. Teenage years are hard enough without adding the burden of being a vampire slayer. I felt for her. My fav3ourite episode is Once More with Feeling, the famous musical where Whedon himself wrote all music and lyrics. I know all the words... test me.
Angel, the spinoff, is categorised under this title too, for the same reasons. His rendition of Mandy at the karaoke club gets me every time.
Excuse the term, I just needed the alliteration. This is quite a broad category as I am putting Toy Story and Firefly in here.
Whedon wrote the original Toy Story in 1995 and I have never met anyone that didn’t love that film. I don’t really have much else to say on the matter.
The Firefly situation is a bit more complex. I can fully appreciate why people love it so much but I often ask myself, would they love it so much if it hadn’t been cancelled and ran for a few more seasons? Let us know what you think below.
EDITORIAL NOTE: Firefly was amazing! It was a crime to cut it so early! - Will
This is applicable for people who have been reading the comics for years, or just people who saw The Avengers (Assemble) movie series, because I’m not a hater. Whedon is credited with directing and co writing The Avengers (Assemble) movie as well as several Marvel Comics titles over the years, including Astonishing X-Men. I guess his experience in making monsters have personalities came in handy when bringing the Hulk to life, a hard task if the previous films are anything to go by. Love goes out to Mark Ruffalo too, you babe of a Banner.
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog… Words are unnecessary. Enjoy.
The Cabin in the Woods-Writer and Producer (The BEST horror of 2011)
Dollhouse – Writer, Director and Producer (Bring it back! Please?)
Speed – Co writer (I love watching Keanu Reeves sweat on a bus, who wouldn’t?)
Joss Whedon is amazing, accept it now or forever hold your peace.
