Back in April 2013, Braff created a campaign on Kickstarter, the newest platform for budding entrepreneurs to share and receive funding for their ideas, for a film he aimed to call Wish I Was Here. Written by himself along with his brother Adam J. Braff, Wish I Was Here aimed to make 2 million dollars in order to boost the project. Braff himself wrote the script, and equally starred in the film, which met its Kickstarter aim three days after it was posted on the site. On the 24th May the campaign ended with Wish I Was Here funded by an amount of $3,105,473 donated by 46,520 people. Let’s hope this success is translated into the quality of the finished product.
In the new trailer released only yesterday on 9th April 2014 show’s Braff accompanied by Kate Hudson as husband and wife Aiden and Sarah Bloom, who have a young son named Tucker. Showcasing Braff at his comedic best, his production has him in the role of a struggling actor, father and husband; a thirty-something trying to find his purpose in life.
Wish I Was Here had its world première in January 2014 at the Sundance Festival, held ten years after the premiere of Braff’s first feature film Garden State, which starred Natalie Portman back in 2004. It has been given the release date of 18th July by Focus Features, and this date is exclusive to New York and Los Angeles. However, there is hope of it expanding its reach around the world on 25th July and 1st August, so UK-based Zach Braff fans may be in luck!
What looks to be a really promising retrospective account of a man’s life, Wish I Was Here should be something to watch out for.
