I think it’s fair to say that we have all had our fair share of awkward moments with our families, but Jason Bateman, Tiny Fey, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver and Corey Stoll are having a weeklong awkward moment. Jason Bateman is no stranger to the on-screen dysfunctional family so it’s of little wonder that he seems completely at home in this first trailer. Jonathon Tropper adapted his original novel for the film version, which follows the lives of four grown siblings dealing with the death of their father. For the funeral, they are all forced to return home to complete their father’s last wish – to practice Shiva; a weeklong mourning period.
As the week progresses and tempers rise, all family members are forced to deal with the problems and complications in their own lives. Will this work, or will the week end in more broken pieces than it started with?
From the trailer, we can see that the film is a showcase for its cast’s comedic reality; Fey punches a guy in the face dubbing it a “princess cut” and Fonda displays a pair of ‘bionic’ breasts in which her son ogles at. There’s a nice family session of listening to an intimate marathon transmitted via a baby monitor also…
The combination of star power and talented creators (Terry Stacey and Michael Giacchino) should prove This Is Where I Leave You to be a hit in cinemas. It’s suit to say that I can’t wait for this one.
This Is Where I Leave You comes to cinemas on September 12th.
