Definitely monopolising on the audience of San Diego Comic Con and those who were not around to see the latest trailer for the Tolkien epic, Jackson and the crew at Warner Brothers have released their first trailer for the final (unnecessary) film in The Hobbit Trilogy. With the Desolation of Smaug releasing the titular beast upon the residents of Lake Town, it is up to a collection of Armies; elves, dwarves, orcs and men to battle for royalty and freedom. Oh and apparently, to stop a dragon but by the looks of it, they are too busy throwing taunts at one another in order to gain dominance.
Though we don’t get to see a lot of Smaug here, from the poster and the clips, he will take centre stage with that chill inducing vocal performance. Martin Freeman as our hero Bilbo will also get his acting chops around drama that only Jackson can unearth. Plus the collective of Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lily, Orlando Bloom, Ian Motherfucking McKellen and more has our Gollum’s raging “precious” at our computer screens
At this stage, Peter Jackson could release a pan shot of him pissing off a New Zealand cliff face and fans of the series would be wetting themselves (this writer included.) For those who believe the movie is over long, tedious and over-complex, you can take note that this is the last (for now) in the series of Tolkien related movies. And maybe, MAYBE, Jackson can go back producing delectable horror films. Oh, and Doctor Who episodes.
