For this trailer rather than reveal plot points to the up and coming film the studio show cases their craftsmanship with demo’s of model building as well as set design. Its a very showy trailer but why shouldn’t Laika show off! In terms of studios they are the second to find success working predominantly in stop-motion animation. The first being British studio Aardman.
We see the sheer level of work that goes into making a film like The Boxtrolls. Every single detail has to be built with precision. Every characters must move and will need duplicates to show the full range of movement and emotion on screen.
Even from the short clips the film looks brilliant. Their visual style is beautiful as ever for Laika, with the trolls exploring through rubbish to find treasures as well as making a slide in there underground haven. Its also based on a well loved book by Alan Snow.
If this isn’t enough to engage your interest Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Ben Kingsley and Toni Colette are just a few of the actors that have lent their voices to the project. This looks to be a real treat for cinema goers of all ages. If the studios previous work is anything to go by this will be a highlight of 2014.
