The story focusses on single parent, Amelia (played by Essie Davis) and her six year old son, Sam (Noah Wiseman) who discover a new book on his shelf one day called The Babadook. As any good parent, she wants to encourage her son into reading and takes it upon herself to read it to him. Now as any fan of the horror genre knows, if something turns up that you have never seen before, it is best not to get involved with it. Sam’s behaviour starts to deteriorate after finding the book and he takes it upon himself to protect him and his mother from whatever evils may be lurking around the corner for them.
In a twist from the usual horror fair though, his mother soon starts to believe that something is not right in her house and the book and follows the same path as her son, into what those around her feel is madness.
The trailer manages to build just enough tension and promises of scares to keep the viewer happy, after being inundated with paranormal and ghost films recently. It will be nice to see if the whole movie can carry off the levels of fright that the trailer gives, but only time will tell.
Just a quick reminder before you go though, just remember;
“If it’s in a word, or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of The Babadook”
