Ouija boards give some fond but frightening memories from childhood sleepovers. But for others, they are nothing but a dangerous door to a world you do not want to mess with. Universal Pictures has summoned a trailer, which firmly fits the latter. Will these fear-seeking kids ever learn? As demonstrated in the first official trailer for the upcoming thriller; if you don’t want demons in your house, then don’t summon them with an Ouija board and wonder why they appear.
The trailer begins with the petrifying death of a teenage girl after she turns down an offer to go out with a friend. While her friends try to reach out to her after her death using the board game, they unknowingly expose themselves to a vicious supernatural presence that continues to haunt and terrify them.
The supernatural thriller is produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes as well as Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum who worked on similar thrillers such as Paranormal Activity, The Purge and the Insidious series.
Unfortunately, from the trailer it appears that this is a case where the writers’ previous works are good indicators of what to expect. There seems to be a truckload of horror genre clichés and familiar setups that are nothing new. However lacking, Ouija just might have the potential to easily thrill those in the mood this Halloween.
Starring Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoof, Douglas Smith, Bianca Santos and Ana Coto, Ouija will open in cinemas this Halloween.
