The trailer portrays this film to be extremely emotional, thought provoking and to yet still have a spark of humour in order to brighten up the sadder truth of the film. How do you go about having a relationship with a personalised computer that understands you on every level and has been a better friend than anyone ever has? It seems pretty impossible for anything to come of this hopeless romance.
This could perhaps be a film that people will not take seriously “hey, he’s fallen in love with a computer, how ridiculous.” But the film could be more than that. No one knows what the future holds for technology, the idea of computer generated people seems silly now but what about the future. It’s interesting to explore the way that technology could have an effect on the way we feel and act instead of just being a tool. With Joaquin Phoenix as Theodore (Gladiator, The Master) and Scarlett Johansen (Lost in Translation, Avengers Assemble) as the voice of Samantha this film promises to be first-rate when it comes to acting, and directed by Spike Jonze (Where the Wild Things Are) it will more than likely be a stunning masterpiece of filmmaking. Already winning numerous awards for his original screenplay, Jonze could have struck Oscar Gold here.
