Based off of the light novel All You Need Is Kill, by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, the film dictates the events of an alien arrival that invades Earth and destroys pretty much every military unit. You’d be forgiven for thinking that would spark the end of the film, but the twist comes with Cruise’s character, Major William Cage, who is able to reverse time every time he dies, which leads to him repeating the same combat mission every time against the aliens (and inevitably getting killed more times). Fortunately, every time Cage dies he manages to get smarter and more skilled in fighting the aliens and teams up with Blunt’s character, Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski, and together, the two try to stop the events of tomorrow from happening.
Sufficed to say, the trailer brings forth with it some intense action sequences fuelled by its large $175 million budget, and thankfully, the trailer doesn’t reveal too much about what direction the movie might take. Blunt looks pretty powerful in her role as Rita and unsurprisingly, Cruise looks to be in his element in his latest action role. Edge of Tomorrow also features several scenes that take place on location in London, particularly Trafalgar Square, which will no doubt please UK fans of the film. Hopefully, Edge of Tomorrow will inject some much needed action into the summer months, and no doubt Warner Bros are hoping for it to be a huge success when it is release in the US on June 6th, and the UK on 30th May. Edge of Tomorrow will be available in 2D or 3D in select theatres.
