This is dubbed as a rom-com set for Valentine’s Day release and Frost plays the lovesick hero, smitten with the new American boss at his office. The foil, O’Dowd, is his cocksure colleague – or friend, in loose terms – and the potential competition for the girl. Frost’s secret weapon? Cuban Fury.
For Bruce Garrett (Frost) has a hidden past: he was once a youthful dance champion. Determined to rediscover his forgotten talent, he enlists the help of a camp Latino instructor and his band of fellow salsa masters. Scenes include awkward slapstick moments and a rooftop dance-off showdown with Chris O’Dowd – something more films should have, perhaps – peppered with a Pegg-and-Frost slanging match.
The only potential downside to this film is audience catchment. All of the material is familiar to the existing fans, and anyone who already enjoys it or is about to discover their fondness for it will certainly get a kick out of this light-hearted farce. If not, it’s not likely to do much for you.
