The trailer starts with the quiet happy family life of Mac (Rogen), his wife Kelly (Rose Byrne) and their newborn daughter. They witness a fraternity house move in next door, and go over to speak to leaders Teddy (Zac Efron) and Pete (Dave Franco), politely asking to keep the noise down. Later that night, however, the frat house has a huge party, on which the couple call the police anonymously, but are soon found out. From there, it turns into all out war between the two houses. Each tries to get back each other, though it seems Delta Si are always winning, especially with various airbag pranks. The trailer ends as the couple discover their daughter playing with a used condom left on their porch from their neighbours and rush her to hospital.
Despite the rather out of taste joke at the end there, the film looks incredibly decent. If you’re a fan of Seth Rogen, then it’s everything you can expect and love. If you’re not a fan, then it’s everything you hate about his movies. But the real reason to see it is surely Zac Efron. Having hammered the final nail into his Disney coffin with last year’s The Paperboy (in which he gave an excellent performance), Efron seems to be continuing his string of varied, mature performances. Whilst he’s usually the most annoying person ever, Dave Franco looks pretty decent in this film as well. The film itself looks pretty decent, it’s a standard ‘this means war’ situation, so will be mostly full of pranks and wild fight scenes but it looks to be enjoyable enough. One scene that looks particularly funny is the frat house’s Robert De Niro party, with Efron dressed as Travis Bickle and Franco as Jack Burns from Meet the Parents, with his incredibly funny De Niro face.
It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but looks to be a fun cinema trip for Seth Rogen fans
