After the success of Ted, this upcoming release is MacFarlane’s second directorial outing. He stars as Albert, a cowardly sheep farmer who can’t quite believe how horrible life is on the wild frontier. After he backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. But when Anna (Charlize Theron) rides into town, she helps him find courage and he sets his sights on winning her hand. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.
The new trailer reveals some of the films more explicit humour than previous trailers. From gory shootouts, lewd shadow puppets and crude jokes to lines like “Somebody’s gonna get f***ed up”, the clip offers a taste of what viewers can expect from the Western-themed comedy which also stars Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris.
Life on the American frontier in the 19th century doesn’t sound so bad at first, but MacFarlane would like us to know that there’s no worst time and place in human history that you’d want to be. The trailers make us wince after a huge ice-block crushes a man to death, no matter how many times we see it. And the comedy arriving at the end of this month is out to prove it further.
Point being, that if you’ve enjoyed the directors crude and vulgar, yet in some way utterly hilarious productions before, then it’s most likely that this latest film will be right up your alley also. It’s fair to say that after viewing this new trailer for A Million Ways to Die in the West, I’ll be only one of many eager viewers to be the first at the UK screenings on May 30th. The only question is now; will MacFarlane live up to the high expectations he has made for himself?
