So I’m 10 years old and I’m on holiday in Norfolk. It’s a rainy day, so there’s not much to do. My sister suggests going to the cinema, but what do we see? Then an advert for that new Batman film comes on, and our decision is made.
We go in, watch the film, and I walk out with my mind blown.
5 years later, my mind is still blown.
Of course, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you the plot. Unless you’ve been living on another planet for the last five years, you’ve most likely seen this movie. When I saw this, I wasn’t the nearly film fan I am today; I didn’t watch movies at all. When I did, it was usual kids stuff (Well, I was 10). So at the time, this was the most beautifully crafted film I had ever seen. Three years later, it still remains one of my favourite film of all time.
Now that’s been replaced with The Breakfast Club, and my top ten is full of a whole variety films I’ve come to witness but The Dark Knight will always have a place there.
Like fear in Batman Begins and pain in The Dark Knight Rises, chaos is the running theme of The Dark Knight. It’s what the Joker hinges himself on, and what he dreams to cause. Not only that but the film poses serious morality questions, which only makes him all that more evil; remember the scene when he sends Rachel and Harvey to 2 different houses and gives Batman the wrong address? That was just cruel. But it’s The Joker’s warped mind that makes this film so gripping. I’m not even going to lie, this film is fantastic but like a lot of people, I just don’t think I would’ve liked it so much without Ledger. He made the film for me and a lot of people
But it’s not just him. The film is fantastically shot, amazingly written and is well acted by all involved. Not just my favourite Batman film, but my favourite comic book film full stop.
