Being that we are again in the swirl of awards season for the film and TV world, it can be very easy to get lost in all the politics, the bitching, the endless questions about who's wearing what on which red carpet, the hyper glamour of it all. Well, here’s another one to deal with.
Only this time, it's the Razzies.
They’ve now announced their nominations (as usual, just before the Oscar nominations get announced), so now we can pull them apart as much as we do with the others. Hey, we need to make sure these awards to the right people.
Grown Ups 2 easily leads this year's pack, scoring nominations in every category except for Worst Actress, though makes up for that by giving it two nominations in Worst Supporting Actor. This continues on from the 32nd Awards, when Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill swept the awards, winning every single category. Sandler's work came up again last year with That's My Boy, where he again won Worst Actor. Can he make it three in a row? (Ed: Yes.)
There are perhaps some surprises. The Lone Ranger pulls in a total of 5 nominations, including a Worst Actor for Johnny Depp's Tonto. Whilst it certainly had its problems and inspired a lot of criticism, not mention being regarded as a massive flop, was it really that bad? Really?
The acting categories themselves have quite a few familiar faces in there, too. Past winners Lindsay Lohan and Halle Berry both once again find themselves in competition. Should she be successful again, whether or not Berry will show up to accept the award in person like she did for Catwoman back in 2004 will be interesting.
Sylvester Stallone also pops up in the Worst Actor category, a single nomination for three films: Bullet to the Head, Escape Plan and Grudge Match. It's almost a tradition to nominate Stallone at the Razzies, having received a total of 14 over the years, starting with Rhinestone back in 1984.
