One such story looking to be told comes in the form of Crossroads, a short film project currently looking for production funding on crowd-sourcing site Indiegogo. Crossroads tells the story of Rex, a young gay man who is currently in a relationship with a co-worker. Though aware and happy with his own sexuality, Rex has been hiding this fact from his father, with whom he still lives. Rex’s mother recently died and his father is taking it especially hard. Things take a sharp turn when Rex’s father inadvertently discovers that his son is gay and confronts him on the matter. Tension builds, arguments ensue and Rex subsequently tries to take his own life.
Katie Smith, the writer-director of the film, has come to Indiegogo and the community of potential backers with the hopes of raising the £1,200 needed for the film to be put into production. Smith has worked previously on numerous projects, and in a variety of capacities (she has previously worked on short films Sweet Dreams Are Made of Cheese and the Birdies Film Festival Award-winning Borderline alongside producer Gloria Daniels-Moss). So, she is well versed in the world of film production and confident that, between the efforts of herself, Daniels-Moss and editor Anca Popescu, they can collectively turn the script into a reality. They want to tell this story, and they want you to help them.
