The film-that-never-was is focused on quite heavily in the documentary, which also features interviews with Tim Burton (who would have directed the piece), screenwriter Kevin Smith, not to mention additional comic book writers and rather importantly – the production crew who would have helped make the film. It’s difficult to see how things could have turned out had the project come to fruition, and by the looks of the trailer, Burton seems to have depressive memories from the time when he was making the movie. Viewers can also get to see footage of Cage in the Superman suit and flowing long hair, which is quite a sight for anyone – as special effects crew reminisce about the suit that they had created. More juicy details from the trailer reveal that Chris Rock was meant to play Jimmy Olsen and that Braniac would have been the main villain. The artwork certainly looked impressive, but it’s unclear as to what went wrong with the film, and this documentary is aims to unearth ‘what happened’. It certainly looks like a intriguing kickstarter film.
The Death of Superman Lives is currently seeking more funds to finish the film, and you can donate here.
