I implore you to find anyone who is more excited about the upcoming Maleficent film than myself. Since it announced the beginning of May 2009, I have been following the production of Angelina Jolie’s first project since her voice acting in Kung Fu Panda 2 in 2011, and her last feature film where she played the role of Elise Clifton-Ward in the 2010 film The Tourist, opposite Johnny Depp.
Excited to see Jolie back in our cinemas anyway, it was even more exciting to see her in the role of Maleficent, the self-proclaimed ‘Mistress of All Evil’ and villain in the story of Princess Aurora, otherwise known by the alias of Briar Rose, or most commonly, Sleeping Beauty, a tale that has been retold by The Brothers Grimm and Disney respectively. Not until now have we been allowed a glimpse into Maleficent’s life, background or story. Not once have we been given any reasons for her bad choices and her wicked ways....
...until now!
With this film, audiences will be shown the events which led Maleficent to curse the baby Aurora and also what happened afterwards, all from Maleficent’s point of view.
The release date of the 30th May is fast approaching, and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures have spoilt us yet again with a brand new featurette named ‘Legacy’, with brand new footage of the film, snippets of the Disney version which we know and love, and also interviews with Jolie and Elle Fanning who will be playing Princess Aurora, as they discuss the legacy of Maleficent. Fanning describes the film as being ‘the classic story of Sleeping Beauty plus so much more’. Promising to The super star producer and director team of Joe Roth and Robert Stromberg are positive that Maleficent will be astounding, and we don’t have too long of a wait left to find that out for ourselves.
