To celebrate Father’s Day, we have a compiled a list of film’s best evil Dads. Some of the most villainous, awful people that have very unlucky offspring. Though perhaps it wouldn’t be good to have a super villain or a crook or a maniac as a father, you must admit that some of them are quite badass...
WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Darth Vader is probably the first evil father that people would put on this list. From the massive movie franchise that is Star Wars, and he appears in all six of the films. Originally born as Anakin Skywalker, he begins as a Jedi, but then falls to the Dark Side and comes under the power of his Sith master Darth Sidious. In the original trilogy, we follow Luke Skywalker on his journey to defeat Darth Vader, and on his travels comes by the company of Princess Leia Organa. It is then later revealed in The Empire Strikes Back that Darth Vader is Luke’s father and that Leia is Luke’s twin sister. He tries to persuade Luke to join the Dark Side, but Luke refuses. In Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader turns against the Emperor to save his son. He kills the Emperor but suffers fatal wounds and dies.
So perhaps, in the end, Darth Vader is not as evil as everyone once thought.

Perhaps one of the most famous horror movie characters of all time, Jack Torrance is most certainly one of the top evil Dads in film. The Shining, based on the book by Stephen King, portrays Jack as a maniac almost from the very start, missing out his troubled childhood. He is placed in charge of maintaining the Overlook Hotel, and it is here that he is spoken to by ghosts of those that had died at the hotel, trying to persuade Jack to kill his wife Wendy, and his son Danny (who has telepathic powers) in order to free them from the hotel. Thus Jack attempts throughout the film to kill both his wife and his son before they eventually escape and he is left to freeze to death in the cold Colorado winter.
If you try to brutally slaughter your child and your wife just to help a few ghosts, then you are certainly a villainous father.

From the children’s film Matilda, based on the Roald Dahl book, Mister Wormwood is not an evil mastermind or a psychopath, but instead an awful crook with exceptionally bad parenting skills. He is the father of Matilda, an exceptionally bright six-year-old who can read and do maths at extremely high levels and has psychokinetic powers. Her father, on the other hand is a foolish, dishonest criminal who sells faulty cars at a ridiculously high price and sends Matilda to Crunchem Hall, a very run-down school with the evil and viscous Miss Trunchbull as headmistress. However, by the end of the film he must realise he is an inadequate father, or perhaps has no care for Matilda at all and allows her to be adopted by her lovely teacher, Miss Honey, whilst he and the rest of the family run away to Guam before being busted by the cops.

You wouldn’t imagine any pirate to be an adequate father. They make a living by stealing from people; are away from home 99.9% of the time; more than likely do not know they have a child; and are more often than not drunk on rum. However, Blackbeard in Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides really does take the cake. He recruits his daughter, Angelica, upon his ship The Queen Ann’s Revenge and eventually promotes her to First Mate. Seemingly nice enough, passing down the family tradition. However, he risks her life when trying to get Jack Sparrow to fetch the chalices and they, when at the fountain of youth, asks her to give up her years left to live so that he could live longer. However, Sparrow mixed up the chalices, Angelica was saved and Blackbeard died.

Kronos features in many films, the most recent being Wrath of the Titans. Originating from Greek Mythology, Kronos was the father of the gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. As ultimate leader of the Titans, he tries (unsuccessfully) in many films to take over Earth from his three sons in a big fiery mess of rage, anger and destruction. However, he is imprisoned by Zeus in Tartarus to keep him from destroying the world and trying to dethrone them. Kronos is the ultimate villainous father, as head of the Titans and father of Greek mythology gods, he certainly has the most power out of all villainous Dads.
