Yes, the Power Rangers are coming back. From Mighty Morphin to Wild Force, Time Force to SPD, and then all the shitty ones that have come on recently, Power Rangers have been around for years, and has been a staple of many childhoods (including mine. Seriously, Wild Force was like Breaking Bad to me when I was a kid). Now, another film is in production, making it the first to hit cinema screens since 1997’s Turbo Power Rangers: The Movie. Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz, the writers who helmed the 2011 prequel to the X-Men franchise, have been brought on to script it, whilst Roberto Orci, director of the upcoming third Star Trek film following J.J. Abrams’ departure, will be executive producer.
X-Men: First Class was arguably the franchise’s best film before the release of its smash hit sequel Days of Future Past, so we know the guys have got talent, and seem to work well in already existing franchises. And whilst it’s almost certain the film will be aimed at kids, will adults will be able to watch, enjoy and get nostalgic, or will it destroy their memories? Several childhoods were ruined as soon as Michael Bay signed the dotted line on his Transformers contract, could history be repeating itself?
What do you think of a new Power Rangers movie? Are these the guys for the job? Let us know in the comments!
