One of the best film festivals around is back for another stellar year. Celebrating world wide cinema as well as home grown talents, East End Film Festival has proven its worth as a must attended film festival alongside the likes of BFI London Film Festival, Cannes and many, many more. Set in the heart of East London, in cinemas such as Genesis (literally the best), Rio, Rich Mix and more, East End Film Festival will delight you with its cinema that is truly evocative and must see. Now we have 2015’s programme and they’ve done the impossible - they’ve made it better than ever. Let’s have a look at some of the highlights;
Highlights of the film festival include the brilliant documentary Above & Below as five survivors try to rummage their way to survival in a landscape almost post-apocolyptic. One of the most sought out documentaries Amy that focuses on London born star Amy Winehouse will also be screening. The sleepy aspect of London as nocturnal works are followed around in the tantalising documentary Anti-Social Worker + Fulfilment. Get rid of the post-Tory blues by looking at the legacy of Margaret Thatcher as Generation Right exams inequality within capitalism.
East End Film Festival has never been one to shy away from the shorts either! There’s a whopping eight categories; Spellbound, Dig Me Out, Everybody Dance, London Is The Place For Me, Rebel Girl, Reflections, Running The Family and Sparks Fly. Shorts such as The Muse, C.T.R.L, The Stranger, Beverley, Love Me Tinder, Three Brothers, Roxanne, Tunnel Another Way and Room 55 are all showcased against many, many more!
Concluding on the 12th of July at Genesis Cinema, Marc Silver’s documentary 31/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets looks arrives in the midst of aftermath of events such as Ferguson and Balti More. Following up his evocative Who Is Dayani Cristal?, this is a look at the unjust death of Jordan Davis who was shot at 17 which is a film that’ll ring out globally.
