Everyone loves a good Australian. And who better to represent the country down under than this incredible actor, Guy Pearce. Though born in Cambridgeshire, his family usurped themselves to the sunny country when he was two, taking with them any claim on the actor we could have. Probably a lot more understated than ever, Guy Pearce is a daring, unique and stunning actor who started in Neighbours and rose to prominence in the nineties with his incredible talent. Making the rounds in independent movies, he can be seen opposite Robert Pattinson in The Rover, which is out in cinemas today. And again, his performance has been acclaimed. But before you head to the cinemas to see it, why not watch these essentials?

But before you head to the cinemas to see it, why not watch these essentials? by Cookie N Screen Stallone has been a household name since he gruffed his way through boxing rings and the deep jungles. Spitting out lines in a slurry yet passionate way, the action hero has become the muscles of the film industry. Surprisingly, Stallone hasn’t just been an actor, he’s been a director and a writer, earning Academy Award nominations for this skilled and tender writings on certain characters who exude masculinity. So Stallone is a stud full of surprises and is back again today with the phenomenal series where he has gathered the steroid pumped men of yesteryear (and now) to battle against enemy Mel Gibson. But what are The Essentials for this toned man? by Cookie N Screen Kate Winslet, I don’t think I’ve met someone in my career or in general that super-mega loathes this actress. Not only has she been gracing our screens with her exquisite presence, but she has been the centre at riveting interviews and wonderful Oscar Winning speeches. Delicately and affectionately named the quintessential English Rose, Kate Winslet has risen to become a household name, especially when she does incredible turns in stellar dramas. Today, Kate Winslet stars in two of the incredible DVD releases today; Divergent and Labour Day. And whilst those movies may actually suck, here is a list of Kate Winslet essentials that you should watch. by Liam McMillen Robert De Niro is arguably the greatest screen actor of all time. You could say there are better actors, but there is no one actor that has the body of work that De Niro has. It's such a shame that he seems to be throwing it away with drivel like Grudge Match and The Family because his talent is incredible. With The Deer Hunter being re-released today, here are his best films: by Robbie Jones Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage. There’s something quite unsettling about that sentence, isn’t there? Nowadays, mention the name and the God awful remake of The Wicker Man comes to mind, or terrible comic book films, or terrible films in general. But there was a time when Cage wasn’t a lunatic, and his films were pretty decent. Let’s take a look at some of the best. Before we start, there are two films which I haven’t seen yet but are fan favourites and should be mentioned: Lord of War, featuring Jared Leto, and The Coen Brothers’ Raising Arizona. If you haven’t seen them, check them out, that’s what I’ll be doing! by Cookie N Screen There is a British hero and his name is Gary Oldman. Not only is he the finest actor on our Isles, born and bred in London, but he has also directed a powerful and BAFTA-winning movie. And if you don’t love his interviews, his attitude and his downright hilarity, then you are wrong. Gary Oldman is a living legend, nailing every single role that comes his way and more. This week sees Oldman star in the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He plays Dreyfuss, the leader of the last remnants of humanity stuck in a building San Francisco. Though not entirely bad, Dreyfuss angrily fights back when he finds that the apes are living in a treetop community above them. But with such an iconic figurehead in British culture as Oldman, let’s have a look at his essential movies. And yes, special mention to the Harry Potter series where he plays Sirius Black, then consequently broke our hearts much like the books did. by Melissa Haggar All rise for the performance capture role King, the one, the only, Andy Serkis. One of the well-respected actors, Serkis has propelled the world of motion capture into dizzying new heights, turning it into an art form among men. Garnering copious amounts of critical acclaim for his performances, in roles that are not typically appreciated enough by critics; Serkis is a true visionary and deserves to be remembered for his great performances. Of course, to say Andy Serkis has only flexed his talents in roles technically ‘off-screen’ would be foolish, the actor has also appeared ‘on-screen’ in several roles, and has proved that he isn’t just an one-trick pony. With the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, where Serkis plays Caeser, the leader of the apes, we look back at some of Serkis’ greatest films to date. by Hayley Charlesworth In Begin Again, we have Hollywood heavyweights Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley giving us some feel-good musical fun for the summer. But Begin Again marks only the latest film in a varied and distinguished career for Mark Ruffalo, which takes him from rom-com leading man, to gay rights advocate, by way of radiation-poisoned superhero. So before you head out to the cinema, here are the essentials of Ruffalo’s career thus far. by Gloria Daniels-Moss Taking on the part of Greta in new musical comedy Begin Again, Keira Knightley has certainly shown us how diverse an actress she really is. Of course, when anyone says her name the obvious pops into your head, yet this woman has been in some truly fantastic films. Going as far back as The Hole (2001) a morbidly twisted tale about school kids, right up to playing the emotionally unstable Sabina in Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method (2011). It seems whatever the woman touches turns to gold. Let us at I'm with Geek take your through some of her best material, and I tell you it was hard to whittle it down! by Cookie N Screen In recent years, Australia has produced some iconic actors. Guy Pearce, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett and many more have given us talented performances that have transcended the usual fare and controlled our award ceremonies. One of those is the unforgettable Geoffrey Rush. Being one of the few actors to have a Tony, Emmy, Academy Award and a BAFTA, Rush is a fine gentleman of the thespian variety. Starring off his career in Queensland, he soon became a great character playing across the globe, until he made his film debut in Hoodwink. More recently, he stars as Hans Hubermann in the film adaptation of best-selling novel, The Book Thief. Out now on DVD, we take a look the best Geoffrey Rush films. |
