The first clip, introduced by star Shailene Woodley, sees Hazel Grace Lancaster (Woodley) and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort) on their first date, “tasting the stars” as they drink champagne for the first time in Amsterdam. It is a scene beloved by fans of the book for being the real starting point of Hazel and Gus’ romance, and in just those brief few moments on screen, you can already see the chemistry between the young leads.
We have a veritable treasure trove of goodies for fans of The Fault in Our Stars, as we have been granted not one, but three exclusive clips ahead of the cinema release of John Green’s best-selling novel. The second clip is one sure to wrench the hearts of The Fault in Our Stars fans, as Hazel opens up to Gus about her reluctance to be with him. The “grenade” scene is infamous for Gus’ line “it would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you”, as spoken in this scene, and a line that reverberates throughout the whole story. It’s quite a simplistic scene, with just the two characters talking on a swing set, no overly emotional score accompanying the scene to jerk emotion. It’s just raw and honest. The final scene also features Isaac, as played by Nat Wolff, who will soon star in John Green’s Paper Towns. The egging scene sees our three heroes take revenge on Monica, Isaac’s ex-girlfriend who dumps him after he loses his sight, by egging his mother’s car. It’s an incredibly fun scene, especially the moment when Gus confuses Monica’s mother so much that she goes back inside so they can continue egging, and is the best example amongst all the clips of what makes Gus such a captivating, if ridiculously pretentious, character. But that’s not all. Three UK fan screenings took place in Glasgow, Manchester and London for lucky competition winners (and boy, am I disappointed I wasn’t one of them!) The Fault in Our Stars publicity team have put together a video with the reactions of these lucky fans called “Little Infinities”, and you can check it out right here! Comments are closed.
