Rejoice as the best film event of the year is coming to the public. While everyone gathers in Telluide and Toronto, there are plenty of us who are sat here wringing our hands with glee because those are second best to the BFI London Film Festival. Finally, we get to see what exactly is on the roster this October. And trust us, it is bloody brilliant this year.
The festival kicks off on the 8th of October with The Imitation Game Gala. The Alan Turing biopic starring man of the moment Benedict Cumberbatch has already rave reviews from the global response and luckily, it is the film that starts a collection of . Highlights include Jon Stewart’s Rosewater, Xavier Dolan’s Mommy and Cannes favourite Mr Turner, which saw Timothy Spall scoop Best Actor. There are massive Oscar contenders too including Whiplash (which looks phenomenal) and Steve Carrell’s game changing and prosthetic clad Foxcatcher,. Brad Pitt' fronted war movie Fury will be the Closing Gala film on the 19th of October.
There is also many premieres including the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ original Monsters; Monsters: Dark Continent and Salvation. As well as this but you’ll see independent and worldwide films in their different categories which include Love, Debate, Anger and mnay more as well as a collection of shorts. There will also be a series of stars and tickets for talks from the people behind your favourite films as well as a competition for upcoming filmmakers.
Personal highlights include: Dear White People, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Bjork’s Biophillia. Isn’t it just teaming with excellence? Tickets go on sale to the general public on September 18th. What will you be seeing?
