The 1991 Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favourite film and it’s one of the few films I’ve watched repeatedly. As well as this, I saw the Broadway musical several times, including when it first premiered. So when it was announced that a live action film was in the works, and due to be released in March 2017. The excitement is pretty hard to contain. So, here’s what we can expect, and what we know, about the film so far:

It was later announced that Stephen Chbosky will be re-writing the script. Chbosky has previously directed Emma Watson, who will be playing our Belle, in the hit film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Emma confirmed her involvement in the film in January of this year. Last month, several more members of the cast were announced. The cast will also include Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as the villainous Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Broadway legend Audra McDonald Wardrobe/Madame de La Grande Bouche who’ll have all made this production a must-see.

The film will officially be released on March 17th, 2017. On a personal note, I am extremely excited for this film. The original Disney film changed entertainment, and made award history when it became the first animated film ever to be nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. While it may have lost to some teeny, tiny film named The Silence of the Lambs (Ed: Pfft, never heard of it), but it still won two Oscars (Best Original Song and Best Original Score). We’re extremely curious as to how Ewan McGregor will portray Lumiere after Jerry Orbach’s iconic turn. It would be amazing to see if any of the original cast from the animated film will have a cameo. I will openly admit, that while I am so excited for this film, I am also nervous. They are taking my favourite film and turning it into something huge. I’m just hoping that it will be as wonderful as its predecessors.
Oh and, hey Condon, if you need any help, call me.
