With Age of Ultron currently doing the rounds I decided to re-ignite an idea I had that’d gone a bit limp. I’m sure it’s far from original, but cool nevertheless and I’d really like to hear your suggestions in the comments too!
Basically, in this world of cross-over movie rumours I had a thought; what characters from non-superhero films would I like to see stand alongside the Avengers? There are so many to choose from, but rather than just naming names I’ve at least tried to rationalise my daft ramblings.
I know none of these will ever actually happen, but just humour me for a minute, yeah? I’m sure you guys have even wilder ideas than me, so get commenting!

New Avenger #1 – The Mask

Whilst the connections to Loki are there to be seen for those who look close enough, this guy is so far removed from what we’ve come to expect in this day and age of gritty superhero movies that I think he’s a good place to start.
He has no fear and no limits, and a seemingly interchangeable and limitless set of powers that’d have Thanos himself quaking in his cosmic throne. From changing balloons into a machine gun to turning into an unstoppable vortex, Mask has the power to bring Joker-style chaos to the MCU, though taken beyond anything the Clown Prince of Crime could even dream of.

From the insane to the downright terrifying, Robert Patrick’s iconic villainous machine might not seem like the ideal candidate to fight the forces of evil, but I’m sure a screwdriver to the circuit board could make him come around to fight for justice. Let’s just hope Ultron doesn’t have a way of controlling him! Ok, maybe I’m thinking too much into this.
T1000 is almost invincible as Sarah Connor found out. You can slow him down but stopping him takes an enormous vat of liquid metal. With the ability to take on the form of anyone, his mastery of any weapon and vehicle, plus his lack of emotional attachment I’d say he’s an indispensable killing machine.

New Avenger #3 – Neo

I guess this one goes without saying. In one world he’s a weak, pale computer hacker (fun game: I’m two of those things, guess which two) but in the other he’s a master of weaponry and martial arts, and even brings god-like and Superman-esque powers to proceedings.
Nothing can stop Neo apart from the love of a woman, and with Black Widow doing some kind of romantic runaround with Banner and Hawkeye we can assume Neo won’t be getting too distracted. Unless Iron Man dons a tight leather suit, which I can actually see happening… worryingly.

New Avenger #4 – John McClane

Whilst not exactly possessing much that could help him fight supervillains, McClane brings that salt of the earth charm that audiences can relate to. It’s all very well watching a group of costumed extraordinary people flying around, punching cars and riding lightning, but that’s not exactly relatable to the average cinema goer. We want someone normal that we can cheer for.
McClane is a real guy with balls of steel and a pantry loaded with free-range wise-cracks. Tony Stark brings plenty of cocky humour to proceedings, but imagine the banter between him the white vest-clad ex-cop. I’m sure he’d have a few comments on Thor’s outfit too.

New Avenger #5 – Lt. Kilgore

These Avengers need a leader, and not one that hides behind a desk like Nick Fury. Ok, so Jackson’s character displayed some of his badassery in Captain America: The Winter Soldier thanks in no small part the most expensive optional extra ever fitted to a car, but he’s just not on the same level as Kilgore.
This is a man with no mercy and the upmost dedication to wiping out the bad guys; he may even throw in a couple of lines that’d become infamous 30 years from now. He’s a cool looking guy with a personality to match, he’s a brutal leader that’s willing to get his hands dirty to get the job done. And any chap with this much of a love for napalm will surely rustle the feathers of any would-be villain.

Aside from the obvious benefits of having an enormous metal man fighting your corner, I think the Giant would bring some much-needed innocence to the Avengers universe. The success of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy confirms that fans want a loveable side character that can pack a punch whilst remaining docile and lovable (and yes I am well aware that Vin Diesel provides the voice for both characters).
He wouldn’t talk much but would sure as hell provide even more comic relief than we have already as well as being able to transform into an enormous alien gun thing that’ll have Ultron’s cronies running for the hills.
