Too often we hear phrases like: "Oh, you're such a wonderful couple! Just like Romeo and Juliet," or "They have such an unbelievable and exciting love story, just like Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy". Sometimes it can be really irritating because who's told these people that those couples are perfect models? Only because there is a book about them? And what if you don't share their opinion? Maybe by reading a book about these characters you've made your own conclusions about what you should absolutely avoid in your relationships?
Let's have a look at some famous literature couples and think once again if they are really that great.

I'm sorry if this hurts your feelings but I can't even think about these two as a role model or an example of true love. First of all, Romeo is such an amorous young man. He suffers from his unrequited love to some Rosaline today and next day is absolutely in love with Juliet. Definitely it was love at first sight and definitely I don't believe in it. I mean, of course, you can get attracted to someone at first sight but love is born only when you talk to this person and learn what is inside. Otherwise you can be surprised later by a killing combination of the appearance and mind. Let's go further; Romeo kills Juliet's cousin. I know that the guy was fishing for it but still... Romeo kills her dear cousin. And if you remember how gentle and loving she was it's hard to understand how easily she forgot a close member of her family and married Romeo. And their double suicide doesn't impress at all. Yeah, they didn't want to live without each other. Oh, suicide! Could you imagine anything more romantic? "For never was a story of more woe, Than this of Juliet and her Romeo" - yes, it is sad and I also feel sad when someone admires this story and dreams of the same love.

It's one of the darkest and untypical relationships. The main characters of Brontё's Wuthering Heights expressed attraction to each other even in their childhood. They easily understood each other, played together and defended each other. When they grew up they were still close to each other and anyone would expect these two to go against any social rules and get married. But no, Catherine chooses a wealthy husband though she admits that she loves Heathcliff. But she doesn't want to be at the same social level with him. Heathcliff devotes the rest of his life to become a rich man. And there was no love on his mind, it was anger and hurt pride. When Catherine dies he keeps on seizing everything that belonged to her family. There was only anger and endless darkness in him. Do you think that if those two married there would be a happy end in the novel? People should thank the heaven that it didn't happen. They used to be sort of nice to each other but their attitude to others was awful. What kind of children would they have brought up? The problem with their love is that it never developed. They fell in love with each other as kids and though they matured their love didn't. It was selfish and greedy all the time; they were not ready for self-sacrifice for each other. It was a really dark and consuming love, and very frightening.

That's the most absurd and odd couple. Even when views and tastes of two people in love differ there are always some important things which connect them. The only thing that connected Hermione and Ron was their friend, Harry Potter. Just think it over: Hermione is a bookworm, she is really pedantic, loves studying, corrects everybody all the time, has not any interest in Quidditch which Ron worships. She often treats Ron like an elder sister or even mother. Now Ron; he is lazy, hates studying, is not really smart, snarls every time Hermione reproves him. Even if they have feelings for each other now, a few years of marriage will absolutely destroy everything. Hermione will get bored of his laziness and Ron will get tired of her reprimands. So, it's quite merciful of the author not to write the continuation and let her readers consider that they will live happily ever after.
