One should really get a decent container to contain the excitement they will burst with after hearing this news – Gaiman is working on a new project together with illustrator Chris Riddell, and the fruit of their joint efforts readers will get to consume in the week of Halloween. Those two artists contributing to a collective piece of art is a truly magical combination, they say.
A sort-of Snow White and an almost Sleeping Beauty, as the characters are presented, leaves no place to wonder where the inspiration came from. What will be the surprising part? The flaws to the fairy-tale muses? Their fates taking unexpected directions? Implications of modernity woven into the fabric of folklore’s typicality? What we know for sure is that a thread of dark magic will significantly spice-up the plot. Could it be too spicy for the younger readers? With Bloomsbury Children's releasing the publication, the chances are that the story will prove appropriate and most importantly – refreshing. This seems to be the main goal, to make old fairy-tales appealing to young readers again.
The story was initially printed in 2013 as a part of Rags & Bones: New Twists on Timeless Tales, being a collection of stories that won The Locus Award. The book coming out soon will be fully illustrated with Chris Riddell’s glorious artwork. They are to be enhanced with metallic ink, which makes for a deliciously promising perspective! Taste it, by laying your eyes on the book cover art that was revealed while we wait for the publication to come out.
