What do I think you will take from this trailer? Intrigue, suspense and a sense of humour, for sure.

Na’ima B. Robert is both an author and magazine publisher, and was born Thando Nomhle McLaren on the 19th of September 1977 in Leeds, England. She has written a total of three young adult fiction books, one non-fiction book (her autobiography entitled From My Sister’s Lips), five picture books under her pseudonym and a further six fiction books published under her given name. Specialising in multicultural literature, she is also the founding editor of the UK-based Muslim women’s publication, SISTERS Magazine. As well as this, Na’ima has also had her work published in The Times, The Observer and The Muslim Weekly and several various online publications.

It is always great to use literature as a tool to uncover traditions and values of other cultures, and Robert’s new book She Wore Red Trainers certainly promises an eye-opening and hard-hitting experience for its readers.

As promoted in the book trailer below, it speaks of the struggles of finding, gaining and indeed having those around you accept teenage love. Except Amirah has another worry on her mind. She has sworn never to get married. And Ali, the boy Amirah cannot stop thinking about, is still coming to terms with the untimely death of his mother whilst trying to establish his identity as a Muslim in the community, but cannot stop his mind from swaying to the girl in the red trainers for too long.

Can they be together and still maintain a higher relationship with Islam, without breaking the rules set by their religion and themselves? Amirah herself questions this in the trailer, reassuring herself over and over again of her wish to be single, even though Ali has utterly and completely stolen her heart. How will this work out for our protagonist?

Luckily, we have a link to the first chapter of this up-and-coming book, which you can access HERE for free!

She Wore Red Trainers by Na'ima B. Robert is due to be released on 29th May 2014 by Kube Publishing Ltd.
