Can books stalk you? Well this one did me. Every supermarket, bookstore or book website I went on, this book was there. It followed me around from the 29th August 2013 until I gave in and purchased it on my Kindle and had it read in a matter of days. It really was a case of judging a book by its cover, an author I didn’t know a thing about or had even heard/seen before.
This book doesn’t just tell us Cecilia’s story and her husband’s secret. It tells us the story of Rachel, a part-time school receptionist, Tess, doting wife and mum of one, and Connor, the ex-accountant, now Physical Education school teacher who seeks therapy and an Indian straight after it.
Moriarty writes in alternate narrative with a similar style to Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain. We learn a lot about the characters who are all completely different. The novel had me in tears towards the end which rarely happens. The ending may seem a little weak to some from what appears to be a big build up, but having not seen an ending like this before, made the books special for me.
For me to judge a book by its cover, the book had to be something special. To stalk me for a little over three months is unbelievable. I rate this highly – The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty is my book of 2013
